FAQ's
I have been asked to have a fasting Blood Test, what do I do?

Please ask for a leaflet from reception, which explains the detailed steps you must follow to ensure that your blood test is accurate - also available for download from the Resources section.

I have been sent for tests, how will I hear about the results?

The time taken to produce results from laboratory tests varies from hours to days, dependent on the particular test (blood, urine, stools, swab, sputum etc).

We will only write or contact you, if the result of your test is abnormal or any action is required.

However, if you are concerned about a recent test, please phone the surgery, between 14:00 and 16:00 and one of our staff will investigate the matter. Please leave sufficient time between the test and the result being available to the Practice, which can be up to two weeks.

You will understand for reasons of confidentiality we are unable to give test results over the telephone to anyone other than the patient themselves.

Regardless of your test results, if you feel your health is not improving, or indeed worsening, please make an appointment with your Doctor, so that your condition can be reviewed.

Can I have a health check up?

Patients over the age of 75 and those, who have not attended the surgery for 3 years or more are encouraged to make an appointment with one of our Health Care Assistants to have a general health check – this will include height, weight, urine test and blood pressure checks.

What happens if I have a problem with my teeth?

Please see your dentist for any dental problems. Doctors are not obliged by their terms of service to provide this care. Both private and NHS dental patients can expect to receive 24-hour care from their dentist.

Will I have to pay for any services provided by the Practice?

The NHS does not cover certain treatments and these include Insurance and other medicals. Details of our current charges are available at Reception. As medicals for insurance reports etc are in appointments outside NHS time, these have to be booked well in advance with the receptionists.

Can I receive family planning, contraception and post coital (“morning after pill”) contraception advice?

A range of services and advice is provided, including the fitting of coils and caps. Please discuss this with the receptionists, who will advise you about the specific times these services are provided.

Can I have my ears syringed?

Please ask for our detailed leaflet at Reception, which includes advice about the preparation before ear syringing will be undertaken - also available for download in the Resources section.

Can I obtain Travel Vaccines from the Practice?

NHS General Practitioner Surgeries are NOT required to provide a travel vaccination service, as it is not part of their core NHS provision.

In order to provide this service to its patients, this surgery is therefore working in association with the BMC Travel Clinic in Ashford. We believe this to be the best way to provide you with up to date travel advice in an ever-changing environment.

Information about Travel Health Providers can be obtained from the Internet, Travel Agencies, or Yellow Pages etc.

Ultrasound & Echocardiography

What do you offer as part of the Ultrasound service?

We now have our own Ultrasound machine and visiting qualified sonographers who allow our patients the convenience of scans without going to hospital. If your doctor recommends a scan, this can now be done much sooner than in hospital. The types of scans offered include scans of the Abdomen, Pelvis, Legs, Carotid Dopplers, Testes, Thyroid Gland, Skin Lumps and the Urinary tract. Examples of uses include investigating unexplained abdominal pain, gynaecological problems, as well as checking for suspected deep vein thromboses in the legs. In addition, our team can perform Echocardiography which allow assessment of heart size and how well the valves are functioning.

To improve accessibility to this exciting service, we have several out-of-hour sessions available for ultrasonography including Saturday mornings. Please ask at reception for further details regarding this service.
