- About Us
The surgery (and telephone lines) will be closed from 1pm on the 9th December for staff training. Medical cover will be provided by the out of hours service and the telephones will automatically divert. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
As you may know, Ivy Court Surgery, Hamstreet Surgery and Woodchurch Surgery have been working closely together for well over a year now on various projects such as the Weekend Urgent Care Service and the ‘Virtual Ward’ for the elderly and vulnerable.
You may also be aware that there have been difficulties with obtaining appointments with other private travel clinics in Ashford. This has caused significant problems for us in rural Ashford as travelling further than Ashford is inconvenient and not always possible. In some cases, it has meant our patients travelling 30 miles to obtain their travel vaccinations. We feel this is unacceptable.
Following complaints from patients in the cluster regarding the lack of a local travel service, the doctors and practice managers of our three surgeries have had several meetings to see if this service could be setup in our surgeries. We are delighted to announce the start of our own Travel Advice and Vaccination service as of the 5th November 2015. This we hope will be another valuable service to our patients, and will be provided through Ashford Rural Medical Services (through which the urgent care service and our other collabarative projects are delivered).
As a specific travel advice service is not covered by the NHS, there will unfortunately be a fee for the service, which we hope you understand.
There will be one clinic each week, alternating on a Tuesday from Hamstreet Surgery and the following week on a Thursday from Ivy Court in Tenterden.
To book in for this, please telephone your surgery. At this stage, this service is reserved for registered patients of our three surgeries.
Many thanks and best wishes.
Just a brief reminder that when attending for a flu vaccination at the surgery, it also gives us the opportunity to discuss any other vaccinations you may be eligible for, such as protection against shingles or the pneumococcus bacteria (one of the commonest causes of severe respiratory infections).
It is also a good time to have your blood pressure checked if needed and your medical records updated with any other changes in lifestyle or circumstances.
Do not delay, book for your flu jab as soon as possible by either phoning the surgery (after 10am) or booking online.
With our best wishes.
Following a high number of repeated missed appointments in recent months, patients requiring ‘Private Medicals’ will be required to pay 50% of the fee prior to the Consultation.
These Consultations can take up to 30 minutes with the GP and the surgery would urge patients to call and re-arrange if unable to make ANY booked appointments, increasing availability and reducing wasted appointments.
The surgery (and telephone lines) will be closed from 1pm on the 14th October for staff training. Medical cover will be provided by the out of hours service and the telephones will automatically divert. We apologise for the inconvenience caused.
