- About Us
As winter draws nearer I thought it a good time to provide you with an update on a few things at Ivy Court.
The surgery continues to follow National Guidance in triaging all GP appointment requests. Patients are able to see their GP face to face, but currently this has to be following a telephone consultation with your GP. This is to ensure that we can maintain both patient and staff safety. Please be assured that if your GP feels a face to face consultation is needed, then you will be seen.
Many of you have asked what the surgery plans are for the winter months and protecting patients who are waiting outside. We have been working very hard since the beginning of September in trying to come up with some plans for this – and working alongside our colleagues in the NHS hopefully we will have a temporary structure up the pathway at East Cross and a canopy outside the entrance to the cabins within the next few weeks. We are of course allowing patients to enter and wait inside the buildings, but like everyone else in these strange times, we do have to restrict the numbers, again for both patient and staff safety.
I do have some good news however! I am sure you have all watched with anticipation the wonderful new building taking shape. We have been advised within the last few days that we will be in our new home at the beginning of February 2021….not long to wait now, giving us considerably more waiting areas inside and the ability to remedy the concerns raised recently regarding our telephone lines.
May I take this opportunity to once again thank you all for your patience, support and understanding during what can only be described as ‘the most trying of times’ for us all. Let us hope that 2021 will bring not only a new surgery, but a bit of ‘normality’ back to us all also.
Very best regards,
Lyndsey, Practice Manager
National policy has led to the creation of an Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) at William Harvey Hospital, which has meant the Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning group (CCG) have withdrawn the funding for our local weekend urgent care service.
This means we will sadly be terminating the Weekend Urgent Care Service from 31st October 2020.
We have worked to keep the service funded for as long as we possibly could, and are extremely disappointed it can no longer continue. However, the CCG have acted in line with national policy and the focus of weekend care is now on the Urgent Treatment Centre at William Harvey Hospital.
The UTC will start on 1st November 2020 at William Harvey Hospital. It will be open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, including Bank Holidays.
Appointments for the UTC for minor illnesses and minor injuries can be booked by calling 111.
We would like to thank our fantastic colleagues from Charing, Hamstreet and Woodchurch, and our own staff from Ivy Court who have, over the years, been dedicated to providing such a highly valued service to our patients. We look forward to continuing to work together on other projects for the mutual benefit of all our patients, but sadly, no longer on the weekend service.
**Note, this refers only to the GP urgent care service. Other weekend services we provide may continue to run, including the dispensary, although there may be slight adjustments to their hours of opening**
